Saudi Arabia to implement SASO standards on coated coil steel imports
The Saudi Arabian Standards, Metrology & Quality Organization (SASO) will ban the trading of pre-painted galvanized coil products which do not comply with its new regulations from October 13th of 2017. Production and imports of such material, sometimes called color-coated coil, have been gradually curtailed since SASO approved the standards on October 13th last year. By April this year, all new production and imports were required to conform to the new standard, and this restriction will be also applied for stock coils from this October. Under SASO standards, the mandatory figure for zinc coating of coils is 90g/sqm. Under ASTM A755-15, the minimum quantity is recommended to be 180-275g/sqm. SASO has a mandatory lead limit of 90mg/kg in paint for top coat, primer and back coat, but ASTM A744-15 has no limit for lead.
