Nickel demand & supply vision in near future
According to the report, traditional sulphide and ferronickel have decreased the production of nickel due to nickel’s weak price for last decade. Now, China and Indonesia supplied most growth in nickel production. Indonesian nickel pig iron (NPI) production has become one of the most important sources of new nickel and few project of nickel supply was working.
However, the development of NPI in Indonesia was under unpredictable political risk. RNC Minerals allied with Tsingshan to have the first integrated NPI plant, which could use sulphide concentrate during stainless steel production. Also, RNC was working on the project of Dumont nickel/ cobalt, which was estimated to produce the highest-grade nickel and cobalt sulphide concentrate in the future.
