Latin American crude steel production rises for first five months this year
According to the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO) statistics showed that Latin America and the Caribbean produced 26.4 million tons of crude steel in January-May this year, up by 12% compared with the same period of last year. Among them, Brazil produced 14.1 million tons of crude steel, accounted for 53% of the total production, increased by 14% compared with the same period of last year. In the same time, Latin American steel structure imports totaled 9.6 million tons, increased by 18% compared with the same period of last year; that of steel plate imports totaled 6.3 million tons; the steel long product totaled 3 million tons; seamless tube imports totaled 239,000 tons.
