Japan’s aluminum production & shipment decline in May
According to Japan Aluminium Association (JAA), the output of Japan’s aluminum products totaled around 139,000 tons in May this year, falling by 9.5% compared to the year-ago level, the fourteenth consecutive month of reduction.

Among them, the output of aluminum plates dropped by 13.4% to roughly 88,500 tons, and that of aluminum extrusion fell by 1.7% to 50,100 tons, both year on year.

In terms of shipment, Japan shipped 7.8% fewer aluminum products from last May, down to around 139,000 tons. The shipment of aluminum plates was down by 11% year on year to 87,400 tons.

Among them, the demand for aluminum cans dropped by 2.2% year on year to 34,000 tons, mainly due to lower consumption of alcoholic beverages at home caused by the resumption of eating out. The need for the automobile industry grew by 3.4% year on year to 16,100 tons, primarily due to the eased chip short supply.
