Hydro opens new aluminum recycling facility in Michigan
Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro opened a new aluminum recycling facility in Cassopolis, Michigan. The new plant, which cost around US$150 million, has an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons of recycled aluminum extrusion ingot.

It is the third new greenfield recycling plant Hydro has built in the US and the first designed to produce Hydro CIRCAL, a low-carbon recycled aluminum product with a content of at least 75% post-consumer aluminum scrap, with CO2 footprint of only 2.3 kg CO2e per kg aluminum or less.

The facility is aimed to double the production of market-leading recycled products and bring more low-carbon aluminum to Hydro’s US partners, said Hilde Merete Aasheim, President and CEO of Hydro.
