China’s primary aluminum output rises in Jun after Yunnan capacity resumes
According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China, China's primary aluminum production totaled 3.46 million tons in June, rising by nearly 3% compared to the same month a year ago. The daily output in June rose month on month to 115,333 tons.
The increase was mainly due to the smelters' production resumption in Yunnan province after the power restriction was eased.
Yunnan is the fourth-largest aluminum-producing region in China. The electricity in this province was previously curbed due to the drought, but now the restrictions were lifted in late June owing to more rainfall.
An expert said that approximately 500,000 tons of yearly production capacity have been resumed from the second quarter, but the delayed commissioning will make production show on the market late.
In the first half of this year, China's primary aluminum production amounted to around 20.2 million tons, a year-on-year growth of 3.4%.
