Bolivia, Russia, China to collaborate in lithium extraction in Bolivia
Bolivia has signed lithium agreements with Russia’s Rosatom and China’s Citic Guoan Group to work together in developing the rich but undeveloped lithium resources, used in making electric vehicle batteries, in Bolivia, with a total investment of US$1.4 billion.
Franklin Molina Ortiz, Bolivian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy, said that the agreement will make Bolivia be able to produce around 100,000 tons of lithium carbonate in three salt flats in the country, Uyuni, Coipasa, and Pasto Grande, in 2025.
According to statistics from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Bolivia's salt flats are home to the largest lithium resources in the world, with reserves of 21 million tons.
